Violin Leonhardt - quality and tradition since 1926
"Whoever loves music can never be unhappy" is a quote from Franz Schubert, which always accompanies us.
In our company "Violin Leonhardt", quality comes first and inspires customers from all over the world. Since 1926 Geigenbau Leonhardt stands for tradition and quality. We build on the old tradition of the violin construction Mittenwald and Mathias Klotz. Our awards, which we have received over the years, like the export prize and the honorary medal as guilds are particularly distinguished by our services and our craftsmanship. Our violins are all equipped with our unique brand stamp, our trademark of Lyra. Mater violin maker Rainer Leonhardt took over the company in 1997 and has been convincing since then with his craft skills and many years of experience.
We have a beautiful new building workshop, where violin repair works are carried out and our beautiful old workshop, in which the new violins are built and processed in pure manual work. Find a place of rest with us and look around, because only then you can you find your perfect instrument. There are many different work steps necessary to get a very good violin at the end. Metric ratios and scales must be strictly adhered to. Our many years of experience help us enormously. To build a white violin you need about 120 working hours but that's not all. Important components of the violin are the F-hole, inlays, notes, bridge, strings, fretboard, finest, swirl, ceiling, floor, snail, bridge and varnish. We use only the best natural resins, which are made according to our own traditions and recipes. Resins such as dragonfly, copal, shellac or madder are special resins and colors. They are then dissolved in oil or alcohol and thus the sonic properties can be promoted. The perfect appearance of the instruments can only arise through the varnish and is therefore enormously important. Ladder heads, certain lacquer paints or certain wood grains can be made upon request or used for construction. We try to fulfill every special request and to implement it as best as possible. The musician has high demands on his instrument and we try to implement it as best as possible. All the factors together then give the overall picture and also the perfect sounding instrument, which each musician evaluates individually. For every human being, a different sound is great, so there is not "the instrument" tastes are known differently.
The best possible materials for the beautiful sounding violin
Components like vertebra, head and tailpiece are usually handmade in Germany or England. For our beautiful violins, we only use high quality materials. Here too, we only use high-quality precious woods, such as rosewood, bluewood, snakewood and beech tree, decorated with mother-of-pearl eyelets, wooden rifles or gold boats.
At least 5 years the noble tone is stored. Nature dried spruce and maple wood from local forests, as well as Bosnia, Italy and Austria. The best, most beautiful sound can be achieved when the woods are hit exactly to the correct moon phase. This is exactly what is required for us. Wood needs a certain ripening phase, just like a good wine. If you are looking for an exciting discovery trip - in our wooden warehouse you will find great old aged wood, look a violin maker over the shoulder or browse our great range. You will find not only violins in all versions, price categories and sizes, but also all the accessories, such as the violin case, violins, shoulder rests or strings in various designs. There is also a selection of rosin available. We have a very well assorted assortment in which everyone will find something. Violoncello, viola and violin can be found in all sizes. 4/4, 7/8, 1/2, 1/4, or 3/4.
Are you looking for an old master instrument, a beginner instrument, a new building, or a solovioline instrument? With us you will find a great selection of everything. Particularly well-known violin makers are e.g. Stradivari, Guaneri, Amati or Klotz to present only a small selection of the best. Through years of experience, we are the "contact" for string instruments, such as violins, violas, cello or bass. Trading in old instruments has been part of our daily business for years.
Here you can find everything what you need. Beginning from string bows, to violin cases in all sizes and price classes. In the workshop, we not only rebuild instruments, but also carry out repairs and maintenance on stringed instruments. This allows us to offer our customers the best possible service. Performing through our exhibition and workshop rooms, every musician can take a break from everyday life and let everything rest in peace.
For the musician, his craft is not just a simple cave or a buckle. For him, it is swirl, stick, bridge, fretboard with upper saddle, fine tuner and chinrest. Components such as the ventricle, vertebra, bridge, fretboard with upper saddle, fine tuner and chinrest have to be individually adapted to the musician, because this is the only way to connect the musician and his instrument. One speaks also of "the soul of the violin" with the tuning rod. In order to enable the voice and bridge to accomplish these important tasks, only carefully selected and deposited fine-grained spruce and mirror-lambswood woods are considered. This is the only way to get the desired unit between the strings and the body.

Often customers ask us, how do I clean my violin best?
- Before you reach for cleansing agents for the instrument, test in a small place
- The cleaning is usually done with a simple microfiber cloth
- With a microfiber cloth you can achieve very good results without scratching
- In circular movements and without pressure contamination.
- Especially rosin should be removed regularly
- At the F-holes very carefully, the instrument is particularly sensitive
- Do not use any cleaning agents, the varnish should be damaged
